(Columbia) Saint Helen, Oregon. Cds (Whittlesey #3, R C) tying 1851 3Ā¢ dull red (four margins, tiny stain) on cover to Miss Corbett, care of H. Corbett, Portland, Or., small piece cut out of reverse, F.-V.F., a very rare postmark. EstimateĀ  $300 - 400. Henry Corbett (February 18, 1827 ? March 31, 1903) was an American businessman and politician in the state of Oregon. A native of Massachusetts, in 1851, Corbett sailed with a stock of goods around Cape Horn to Portland, Oregon. There, in what was then the Oregon Territory, he engaged in a general merchandising business, later changing to wholesale hardware. Corbett purchased the California Stage Line, which carried both mail and passengers, in 1863. A Republican he served as a United States Senator from 1867 to 1873. Additionally, he is the great, great grandfather of two of Portland's most prominent philatelists. $0 (Image)
