(Civilization) Progress of American Civilization, allover Onwhyn illustrated design showing human progress in North America from the time Indians where sole residents to the creation of America's industrialization, with Valentine imprint at lower right and on backflap, on cover to Columbia, Ind., franked with 1857, 3¢ dull red (small pre-use tear at top) tied by "New - York, Dec 7" cds, Very Fine and attractive, a very rare Progress & Reform illustrated design. Scott No. 26  Estimate $750 - 1,000. It is believed that Elihu Burritt suggested this concept to James Valentine to supplement other illustrated envelopes created by that firm.
