(Cincinnati to Portsmouth Route 9232) Bostona Way, blue oval handstamp ties 3¢ red, grilled (94) pair with nat. s.e. at left, on circa 1860 cover addressed to Columbus Oh., put onto steamer enroute to Portsmouth; reduced slightly at right, Very Fine, ex-"Antoine". Milgram No. 135  Estimate $500 - 750. In July 1860, G. Gibson and W. McCline of the Cincinnati, Maysville & Portsmouth Packet Co. were contacted at $2,000 a year for three trips a week between Cincinnati & Portsmouth. The "Bostona" of 355 tons was built at Cincinnati in 1854 and used for the contract. The use of a "Way" marking within a name-of-boat marking is unique to this steamboat and route. $0 (Image)
