(Charleston, S.C.) 1793 Letter From Charles Cotesworth Pinckney. Datelined Charleston, Oct 7, 1793, addressed to George Hooper, Esq., Wilmington." On Public Business.The enclosed resolutions are transmitted to you by the Division of the Citizens of Charleston. They sufficiently evince the occasion of our meeting, and the measures which we are compelled to adopt for the preservation of the health & security of our fellow citizens. I have the honor to be your most Obedt. Servt., Charles Cotesworth Pinckney", Very Fine. Estimate  $500 - 750. Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, who represented South Carolina at the Constitutional Convention, was an American aristocrat. Like other first families of South Carolina, whose wealth and social prominence could be traced to the seventeenth century, the Pinckneys maintained close ties with the mother country and actively participated in the Royal colonial government. Nevertheless, when armed conflict threatened, Pinckney rejected Loyalist appeals and embraced the Patriot cause.
