"President" New York Nov. 2nd and Nov. 11th - Liverpool Nov. 27th 1840, second Nov. 10th letter from Philadelphia Pa. to London with sharp blue "Philadelphia Pa. Nov 10" cds and matching bold "Paid" handstamp with manuscript "37½" rating for the 25¢ freight money fee plus 12½¢ postage to New York, endorsed "p Steamer President", flap with "Liverpool/ Ship Letter" handstamp and red London (11.28) arrival backstamp, manuscript "8" pence due rating; vertical file fold, Very Fine and unusual., This freight money cover caught the second sailing attempt on Nov. 11th, one of only two such examples recorded. Estimate  $400 - 600. The 2nd return voyage westbound of the President encountered a severe gale outbound from New York and had to return to New York on November 9.
