"Ft Worth Tx, Feb 27", manuscript postmark on 1858 folded letter bearing 1852, 3¢ dull red, margins to just in, cancelled by matching manuscript strokes, addressed to Huntsville Ala.,1858 receipt docketing; some edge faults, Fine. Scott No. 11A  Estimate $300 - 400. THIS IS THE EARLIEST RECORDED USE FROM THE TOWN OF FORT WORTH. When the garrison was removed from Fort Worth in September 1853, settlers in the area moved into it abandoned buildings and the city grew from the nucleus. The post office was opened in 1856. This letter was from Col. Nathaniel Terry, a former lieutenant governor of Alabama and the was the largest slave holder in the town. $0 (Image)
