Group of the "undocumented" essays, incl. three 2 par essays with bull's head in the centre of a star on envelope corner pieces, and three with a rampant lion in the centre in a rectangular frame on gummed paper, each with embossed design in matching blue, yellow and reddish mauve, very fine and rare essays. Note: Although their origin remains undocumented, these essays have been considered to belong to the 1865 Prince Cuza issue for a very long time. They were mentioned in P. Murea's 1938 philatelic work "Istoricul timbrelor postale românesti 1858-1938". (Image)

1865 Prince Cuza mint o.g. set of three on wove paper, the 20par with cert. Heimbuchler (1980) describing its colour as the rare Mi.13z on light grey paper but today in uncatalogued by Michel but is mentioned in the Heimbuchler handbook as the scarce paper shade "h", very fine. (Image)

1865 20 Parale red plate II, on wove paper, mint block of twenty four, with narrow horizontal spacing, printed in sheets of 200, a remarkably fresh example, vivid pale orange-red shade, full original gum, 22 stamps n.h., only two stamps have corner creases, otherwise exceptionally fine and very rare. 20 parale red, horizontal pair, hardly touched top right to very large uneven margins (knife cut through pair), on 1865 registered too late folded cover from Jassy to Bucharest, cancelled by black Jassy grille postmark, with boxed RECOMANDAT and DUPA/PLECARE alongside, both in blue, as well as unusual usage of the fancy drapery postmark of JASSY/27.3.65 in black, cover with tape stains and much restoration, a rare Too Late usage. 1865 (Jan 30) Cover from Bucharest franked with 20 par red tied by rare experimental trial cancellation of framed network type in black (Kiriac-15R, fig. 362), an exceptionally rare mark in use for just five weeks, the stamp being an exhibition quality item with the sheet margin at bottom and extraordinarily large margins; this letter is explicitly mentioned in "Stampilografie Postale" by Kiriac p.94; the finest cover recorded of this major cancellation rarity and possibly the earliest known use of the Cuza issue; which was only sent to the Post Offices on January 21st 1865; ex Oddor (1934).
