6 Parale brick red, very fine marginal single, tied by ornamental BUCURESTI cds, ribbons, on 1862 folded lettersheet sent locally. Single frankings of this stamp are considered major Romania rarities as almost all usages of this value represent multiple frankings. Heimbüchler mentions that he has seen only four such single usages. A similar but cut-in example was sold for CHF18'200 in the "Moldau" sale Part 1. Nevertheless, our own research of all major auction sales from the past reveals only two such covers are known. The cover offered here is by far the finest of the two known. Cert. Gmach (2023). 6 Parale carmine red, horizontal strip of five (of which three have faults and central pair is absolutely superb), all neatly tied or cancelled by clear FRANCO/GALATZ ribbons, on 1862 entire to Berlad, with arrival bs, an outstanding usage of the strip with excellent margins and an extraordinary shade. Note: A similar cover bearing franking, but in a lesser quality from the "Moldau" collection Part 1 (lot 7073), sold for CHF9'000. Tomasini had a comparable cover from the same correspondence.
