USA: Folded letter (with fancy watermark) placed aboard a Steamboat March 22nd, 1828 and carried privately from New Orleans to Natchez with ms routing direction 'S. B. Walk on the Water' at lower left (postal service delivery by stage was irregular and lengthy), an extremely rare routing and marking, filing fold, otherwise fine. (Image)

USA: 65: Yellow envelope addressed to Detroit (circa 1860's) with very fine strike of large red oval STEAMER ILLINOIS CLEVELAND, DETROIT & LAKE SUPERIOR LINE/ J.T. WHITING CO. AGENTS/ DETROIT, MICH. Purser's handstamp and black oval STEAMBOAT DUE 2 CENTS rate stamp, unknown origin but most likely travelled aboard the Steamer without postage from Lake Superior through the North Channel to Lake Huron, the St Clair River and then Detroit where a 3ยข rose Washington stamp was applied and tied by a Detroit 26 JUN cds. The purser's handstamp was applied aboard the steamboat to letters picked up for delivery to the Detroit Post Office, negligible stain at cover bottom, some pencil notations and small ownership mark on back, still very fine and a most attractive and EXCEEDINGLY RARE Steamboat cover, ex Brooks.
