1847, Franklin, 5 c. red-brown, imperforate, USA first issue, good to large margins with part right sheet margin, vivid printing, used on fragment in combination with Canada, 1851, 3 p. red, imperforate, first issue, printed on laid paper, full to large margins, bright shade, tied by the Canadian seven ring target cancel, a red 'Kingston U.C.' datestamp 4 June 1851 in red alongside and handstruck "10" mark in red, there is a vertical crease affecting the 5 c. which has a tone spot in bottom right margin, very rare mixed franking, cancelled in Canada to pay the new treaty rate, an important piece of North American postal history.rnrnReferance: "The Postage Stamps and Postal History of Canada", by Winthrop S. 1861: Washington 10 c. yellow-green, used on cover from Washington to Guatemala, dated 19 March 1862, tied by Washington DC circular datestamp in black dated 20 March, with charge mark "2" in blue alongside. The envelope is addressed to "Hon. E. D. Crosby" (Elisha Oscar Crosby) and contains an extensive letter, headed up "Washington March 19th, 1862", contains interesting historical content relating to President Abraham Lincoln; ".....Mr. Lincoln will get the nomination at the Republican Convention which assembles in Blatimore in June or I will confess that I am politically blind. 13 State Legislators have already passed resolutions favouring his re-election and think they express the voice of the people, and if nominated his election is a certainty, beyond all question. Which is more than can be said for any other aspirant...."; the two page handwritten letter is signed; 'Sam' N. Hilton'; a wonderful snapshot into US politics during the American Civil War period. Christa McAuliffe on airmail envelope franked with vert. pair of 'Health Research' 20c. tied by KSC machine cancel (Jan. 28 AM), bearing special cancels 'First Shuttle /"Pad B" Launch' in black and '25th Space / Shuttle Launch / Mission 51-L' in violett alongside. Very Fine. McAuliffe was chosen among 11,000 applicants to be the first teacher in space and had been scheduled to conduct two classes while in space. Greg Jarvis signature was added later, by someones other hand just to be ment to complete the crew signatures, as Jarvis was a late addition to the flight. Carried on Inman Line Steamer "City of Brussels" with poor London transit cds on reverse in red and struck there with "GB / 40c." accountancy mark applied in black. An over-payment of the double 2 x 4 c. US rate. Charged at French triple rate with '15' dêcimes due marking in black on arrival (Aug 31). FR. H No. 1" datestamp (Dec 11) struck in red (Salles fig. 1713). Both these cancellations deleted in manuscript, as was the adhesive, when the cover was forwarded unpaid to EGYPT with "Forwarded By / Drexel Harjes & Co. / Paris" cachet in blue. French P.O. in Alexandria arrival cds (Jan 9, 1870) in black and charged there on arrival with '6' dêcimes handstruck in black.
