Pair of early covers with "Va City I T" manuscript postmarks, first stampless with May 20 postmark and "Paid 3" rate marking, to New York, second with July 20 postmark and 1861 3¢ rose with pen cancel, to Michigan, first opened roughly at left and a bit soiled, second slightly reduced at left and with small stain tying stamp and docket indicating over one month in transit, Fine pair, ex-Mader. Virginia City, Idaho Territory (Now Montana). Study group of eight covers (seven with 1861 3¢ rose plus one 1864 3¢ pink entire) with "Virginia City, Ido" double circle postmarks and duplex target killers, postmark dates range from Nov. 1864 to Aug. 1865 (Montana Territory was created May 1864), destinations include Lewiston, Idaho, Nevada City, Montana, and various eastern states, the cover to Lewiston also bears a partial straight line marking that is likely a postmark, most covers opened roughly or reduced and three covers with stains, V.G.-Fine group, ex-Mader (no photo). Estimate  $200 - 300. $0
