Postage Currency, 1862, 5¢ brown, imperf edges. Canceled New York "PO" double oval on cover postmarked "NY P.O, Sep 13, 6 PM, 1901" duplex handstamp to H.G. Mandell in the Bronx, New York Sta. T distribution cds the same day, 11 PM on reverse; horizontal file fold not affecting note, Fine and most unusual; with 1997 P.F. certificate stating "genuine non-contemporary usage of postage currency, apparently accepted as pre-payment of postage.". Scott No. PC5  Estimate $1,000 - 1,500. A similar cover is known addressed in the same hand to J.W. Scott and mailed on September 20. $0 (Image)
