1926, May 9 - Byrd North Pole Flight. Flight cover signed "R E Byrd", Norway 40ö Posthorn (normally U.S. franking) tied by "NY - Alesund, 9.V.26" cds with second strike alongside, additional Norway 15ö and 25ö Amundsen issues tied by "Kings Bay, 9V 26" cds's, Very Fine, a rare flown cover signed by Richard E. Byrd on one of the first cover to flown across the North Pole, AAMC $1,500 without signature premium. AAMC No. 1039. Estimate  $1,000 - 1,500. Commander Richard E. Byrd, accompanied by Floyd Bennett where the first to fly over the North Pole. They took off from Kings Bay, flew to the North Pole and returned in 14 hours. Only a few of the flown covers where signed by Byrd with only one known signed by pilot Floyd Bennett. $0 (Image)
