1857, 5¢ red brown, type I, vertical strip of three. Rich color, perfs scissor separated leaving intact perfs on three sides and trimmed at bottom, tied by clear strikes of "New Orleans La. Oct. 2, 1857" cds's on folded letter to Paris, France, red "New York, Paid 6, Oct. 10" credit cds, receiving backstamp; stamps affected by light horizontal cover bend, F.-V.F., this October 1857 usage pre-dates the Red Brown printing (the shade is the 1856 No. 12 shade); with 1982 E.
