1847 New York, N.Y. To Cognac, France. Folded letter with "18" decimes charged the addressee in France (10 decimes sea and 8 decimes inland for a letter weighing up to 7.5 grams), however, the black manuscript "W" upper right corner represents 10 grams in weight, probably marked in Paris,and the rate should have twice what was collected, blue rare "Le Havre, 1 Paq., Dec 12, 47" entry cds, Very Fine, a very scarce letter taken to steamship's letter bag, bypassing New York post office, also carried on the last voyage of the New York. Estimate  $1,000 - 1,500. Sent via Hérout & de Handel Line - per steamer New York, departing New York on November 25th and arriving in Havre on December 12th. $0 (Image)
