1853 "DIYARBAKIR" oval ornament handstamp on entire letter to Aleppo, endored in Arabic "2 pi." and "30 pa." in purple. A superb strike of this early handstamp on a fine entire. (Ref. Robson Lowe Basle 1979 sale, lot 2387).

1868-70 Duloz 2pi. and bisected 20pa. green used on back of cover sent from Manchester to Aleppo via Marseilles in 1872, franked by British 6d. chestnut (Plate 11) tied by '6 AU 72" duplex datestamp, with red circled "PD" and transit dater on front, Marseille and Smyrne transit datestamps on the reverse. Cover with minor traces of ageing and transport but still good. A SCARCE COMBINATION FRANKING. Signed Dr. Knopke.

1871 Entire letter from Alep to Genoa, Italy via Alexandrette, Beyrouth, Alexandria and Napoli, franked on the reverse by 1873 Duloz 1pi. yellow and postage due stamp 20pa. both tied by Alep native handstamp, with respective datestamps alongside, on front with Alexandrette '8 DEC 74' cds and two Italian postage due stamps at 30c and 60c tied "GENOVA/22 DEC 74". Part of letter's back cut out and affixed on back of the Duloz stamp for stabilization and to show the entire postmarks. (The 90c. Italian postage due may result from the rate for such a letter unfranked (1 lire) when the Turkish franking was taken into account for 10c.) Certificate by Guy du Vachat, Paris.

1882 "POSTAHANE-I MERSIN 1286" negative handstamp (A&P type 2, RRR) used as obliterator on two covers from a correspondence to Alep, one single weight cover franked by 1876/82 Duloz issue 2pi. and 20pa., and a double-weight cover franked 1pi., 20pa. and 10pa. in combination with Duloz postage due 2pi., both with sender's oval h/s and arrival backstamp, both signed by S. Sorani. (The double-weight cover is illustrated in A&P, the handbooks of Ağaoğullari & Papuçcuoğlu.) A most attractive pair of covers with superb strikes of the scarce Mersin native handstamp.
