Folded letter with red Paris cds and manuscript "15" décimes prepaid rating on reverse, carried by Cunard Line Acadia from Liverpool Sep. 9th to Boston arriving Sep. 24th, London "Paid 6 SP" and Liverpool (9.7) transits, red "24" retaliatory due rating for 24¢ packet fee; light toning, ex-Winter.

Letter carried on 12th of 25 Cunard voyages westbound to Boston under the retaliatory order.

1850 (Dec. 28) New Orleans La. to Paris, France. Fresh blue folded letter with red "New Orleans La., Dec 28" cds and matching "Paid 21" rating handstamp for the 21¢ treaty rate for carriage by American packet, intended for the sailing of the Collins Line Baltic, but the New Orleans postmaster, realizing that the letter had missed that sailing, sent it directly to Boston for the sailing of Cunard Line Canada that departed Jan. 7th for Liverpool arriving Jan. 18th, Boston red manuscript crossed out prepaid rating and "16" cents credit back to New Orleans, red London (1.28) transit backstamp and matching "Colonies / &c. Art. 13" framed handstamp, Calais (1.29) entry cds and matching "15" decimes due handstamp; slight upper right paper loss, otherwise Very Fine and choice use, ex-Feldman.

1852 (Aug. 9) Savannah Ga. to Paris, France. Buff cover with perfect bold strikes of "Savannah Geo, Aug 9" cds with "PAID" and double-circle "5" rating handstamps for British open mail rate by British packet, New York black "British/Packet" handstamp, carried by Cunard Line Niagara from Boston Aug. 18th to Liverpool arriving Aug. 29th, red London (8.29) backstamp, entered mails with red "Etats-Unis Paq. Brit., Paris" (8.31.52) cds and black "12" décimes due handstamp, Very Fine and choice early use of the New York "British Packet" two-line handstamp.
Estimate; $300 - 400.

The "British/Packet" marking is believed to have been struck at New York during August 1852-April 1853. It is known in red and black ink. Dick Winter had recorded only 17 examples.
