1646 (Nov. 2): Philipp IV King of Spain (1605-1665): King's letter with papered wax seal on reverse, written in Zaragozoa (Spain), and signed by the Kings own hand 'Yo El Rey', countersigned by Don Fernando Ruiz de Contreras. Entire letter addressed to the 'Duke of Amalfi 'Governador General de las Armas y execitos de mis estados de Flandres' Ottavio Piccolomini (1599-1656), involved in the conspiracy to oust the Duke of Wallenstein in the 30 year's war. 1859 (June 19): Entire letter from Fernando Po to Santa Cruz de Teneriffe, Canary Islands, with manuscript 'Pd. 4' (pence) at left, struck with very fine "♚ / PAID / AT / FERNANDO-PO" with despatch cds adjacent of 'Fernando-Po' in black (June 29). Slitted for disinfection with 'Santa Cruz' arrival cds on reverse and charged with circular "2.R" (reales) for local delivery.
