South Africa 1929, The early printing trials of the first Rotogravure Penny Postage stamps (so called "Darmstadt" trials by Goebel), sophisticated and all-embracing collection well arranged on written up album pages, showing dummy stamps "HUNTER-PENROSE" (named after South Africa's London agents), dummy "cigarette duty labels", and finally trials of issued design (1d. value) with frame only, centre only, different colours and papers, perf./imperf., etc. (in total apprx. 112 pieces, proofs within multiples counted accordingly).
