1919 Registered cover from Moudon/Switzerland (5.4) to Jeddah, but on arrival in Port Said (cds. 20.4 on reverse) it received red manuscript "Service to Jeddah suspended. Return to sender " in French, as communications were still interrupted due to the war, returned to Moudon (1.5), unusual and scarce (Image)

1931 Re-Directed From Riyadh: Cover sent from Egypt, franked with 1 m. + 15 m. = 16 m., to Riyadh, from where it was returned to the sender in Australia, the cover was taxed as the rate had been increased to 20 m. in the previous month., a remarkable routing and a very early use of the first "RYAD postmark" (Image)

1940 Undercover registered mail from CASOC (later ARAMCO) in Dhahran via Bahrain to the US Legation in Baghdad for onward transmission via military mail (APO 578 in Basra). The earliest of 7 known registered letters sent thus between the bombing of Dhahran by Italian planes (October 1940) and the Saudi-US agreement for Casoc to use APO services (May 1943). Franked with Bahrain 1A (3), 4 A (15) and 5 RS., a very rare stamp on cover (Image)
