Samoa, 1880-82, 9d pale orange brown. Position 5, rare variety showing a portion of the paper maker's watermark, cancelled by "Apia/Apr. 7, 1880" double circle handstamp, which would make this one of the earliest known usages, however this maybe a cut down version of the 1880 year date used for 1881 (see Odenweller pages 47 & 92), fresh and well centered, Very Fine, a wonderful lot for the specialist.
