GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY - A MOST UNUSUAL ITEM:6 Oct 1896 1d pink envelope from Dresden Mills, Hanley to Longton bearing a GWR 2d letter stamp cancelled with eight strikes of the purple "LONGTON" h.s. with "LONGTON/STAFF" duplex alongside. Note The G.W.R. was not popular with the N.S, Rly as it had tried to aggressively take it over, the clerk therefore tried to completely obliterate the GWR adhesive. (Image)
