Very scarce.  Ex Bernie Manning - sold at our auction of 13.6.2009 for $975 and 'Dubois' (I): sold for SFr415. [Arthur Basset Hull at page 160 states that this was a colour trial made in March 1897, apparently for a proposed change of colour: see Alan Griffiths 'Stamp Magazine' (May 1992)]

Cat No:285

1906-10 'COMMONWEALTH' Crown/A 9d yellow-brown & ultramarine Type B Perf 11 ACSC Q45B (SG 285), well centred, faint cds cancel, Cat $1500 (£800). Rare and greatly underappreciated. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2015) states "superb example". [The ACSC states that "There may be as many as 12 used examples, with two in the Royal Collection". Why, then, should such a rare stamp have such modest catalogue values? A very attractive example sold at our auction of 17.2.2012 for $3030. However, another very fine example sold at our auction of 10.11.2022 for $628]

Cat No:285var

1906-10 'COMMONWEALTH' Crown/A 9d yellow-brown & ultramarine Type B Perf 11 punctured 'OS' ACSC Q45Bb (SG 285var), excellent centring, very fresh and neatly cancelled, Cat $1500 (£800, for unpunctured). Very rare and greatly underappreciated. [The ACSC states that "There may be as many as 12 used examples, with two in the Royal Collection, and one...punctured OS". The comments for the previous lot, are even more pertinent here. We do know of three other 'OS' examples: that's a total of four, making this an extremely rare stamp. Two of the others sold at our auctions of 29.2.2020 and 10.11.2022 for $575 and $688 respectively]
