1905 (Dec 15) and 1908 (Dec 17) Post Office Circulars both detailing Christmas postal arrangements, with details of the experimental advance posting scheme operating in several towns, whereby items posted in advance will be delivered on Christmas eve or Christmas day (in 1905) or Christmas day only in 1908. The 1908 circular confirms the scheme at Liverpool & District, Manchester & District and Leicester and shows it was extended to Norwich and Reading, whilst mail posted under the scheme could now be addressed anywhere in the UK. A very unusual combination of handstamps, only recorded from Bradford in 1904 (with some mail receiving the "107" in black, others cancelled by the oval B.D handstamp without the 107 numeral applied). Undated Christmas greetings picture postcard sent within Cheltenham with KEVII ½d cancelled by undated double ring "CHELTENHAM" handstamp in red, known to have been used on mail posted in advance for Christmas day delivery in 1903, the only year the scheme operated at Cheltenham. Manchester. 1905 Picture postcard and small cover with KEVII ½d both cancelled by oval rubber type "MANCHESTER / ADVANCE POST(ED) / CHRISTMAS 19(05)" in black or violet, both with the year date missing at right but otherwise very fine, the black cancel on the card dated 1905 by the sender. A good pair, clearly differing handstamps with various small differences including "Advance" 1½mm from the left frame in the black handstamp and 2½mm in the violet handstamp. (2). Photo on Page 66.
