Free Frank Covers. Over 200 covers from the various agencies in the U.S. government - Executive Department, Dept of State, War, Treasury, Justice, Navy, Interior, Agriculture, Post Office, Patent, Pension, Army, etc., as listed and valued in Vol. 2 of the American Stampless Cover Catalog, about 60 of these are sleeved and priced with a writeup, remaining 140 are still as acquired by an intrepid collector years ago, fascinating combination of postal artifacts and American history with content usually on various government matters in the 1790's to about the 1860's, also includes a few Executive Mansion/White House covers and a few Postmaster free franks, but over 200 are from the various executive branches with frankings of Commissioners, deputies, assistants, clerks, etc., including A. D. Bache, grandson of Ben Franklin, Gideon Welles, Secretary of Navy, Nicholas Trist of Dept. of State, Caleb Swan, Army Paymaster in 1805 to the District of New Orleans, Freedmen's Bureau, 1822 letter about Spanish Claims in the Prize Court, 1838 letter mentioning the French blockade of Mexican Ports; great lot either for a dealer or a collector wanting to expand this assemblage.
