1813, folded letter from New Orleans with "Yndias" of New Orleans, dated July 1st, written in Spanish from New Orleans amd addressed to Veracruz, Mexico, carried by the “Proserprina” schooner as denoted at lower left, presumably struck in Havana with “3” rate marking for an unpaid single-weight maritime letter, and “Yndias” straight-line handstamp, both in black; the “Yndias” handstamp is identical to the type previously used in New Orleans, and as the post office was closed with the end of the Spanish dominion in Louisiana in 1803, this postmark must have been taken to Havana; very fine, an extraordinary usage of the “Yndias” handstamp of New Orleans applied outside this city; 2014 Comex certificate; ex-Kouri and Sitja.
