1956 (June 6) Morris Hedstrom Ltd airmail envelope (275x125mm) to Samoa with Sydney machine cancel and stamps washed off, obvious damage from immersion in water, very fine strike of the straight-line 'SOILED MAIL EX VASU' in violet handstamped at Apia on face. [The mail was flown to Fiji, then per wooden motorship 'Vasu' which foundered in rough seas about 300km north of Tonga, and was abandoned. Brian Peace states, at page 322, that '29 pieces of mail were recovered'.] (Image1)

1960s-70s Covers (few later) sent from various localities throughout Nepal (some remote, such as Dolpa & Jumla) predominantly addressed to Govt Officers in Kathmandhu including Prime Ministers, Deputy Prime Ministers and Govt Department ministers; all are addressed in Nepalese, most are registered with manuscript registration markings, and with 'Singha Durbar' backstamps for the secretariat location where ministers were housed. Vendor had provided an itemised list indicating where each cover originated and to whom they are addressed. Many of the covers have attractive multiple frankings. A very good lot. (74) (Image1)
