By the time this cover was mailed more than a year after the Japanese invasion of China, Japan had nearly completed its naval blockade of the Chinese coast, the major exception being the Pearl River Delta and its port city of Canton, gateway to South China. Section" oval d.s. (11.6) in violet, "Shanghai" bilingual segmented c.d.s. (31.7?), then back to Brussels (4.10) but the addressee had left, so showing appropriate "Retour à l'envoyeur/Terug aan afzender" framed h.s., which resulted in it again being sent back to Shanghai (15.11), quite remarkable example of perseverance in the handling of wartime mail matter.
