Captain Fischer was an American Korean War ace, credited with downing 11 enemy MIG jets. He was shot down on 7 April 1953 and captured by the Chinese in Chinese territory. He was thus one of the few American P.O.W.s held in a prison camp in China, near Mukden (Shenyang), Manchuria, until his release in May 1955.
