Blue Patriotic design on 1862 cover with balloon type cds of "Corinth, Miss., Apr. 10" on reverse and manuscript "Due 5" rating to Memphis, Tenn., Memphis "Due 5" handstamp on face, magenta Soldier's endorsement "Soldier's Letter, L.S. Lake, Co C. 13th Regiment, Tenn. Vols." at top; cover silked on the inside and lightly cleaned, handsome Very Fine appearance, ex-Everett (Pictured in Monroe Book, pg. 30).

Private L.S. Lake of the 13th Tennessee, had just fought at the Battle of Shiloh (April 6-7), in which the regiment sustained 137 casualties, which might be one of the reasons why he deserted his unit at Corinth on April 25, 1862.
