Papua c early 1942 WWII stampless OAS cover to Brisbane, "Australia, with violet h/s "PASSED FREE/OF POSTAGE" & small circular "I". Sender's address: "P.M.O. Moore, U.S.A. S.S.D., A.P.O. 928". No other markings. US APO 928 was at Milne Bay Papua. This must date from early in the involvement of US Forces. Some light stains.

Papua 1942 WWII OAS regd air cover to NZ, franked Australia GVI 3d x 3, canc 2 faint strikes of "FIELD P.O. 0140" cds 13 JE 42, with further complete strike on back. Also on front: boxed unit regn h/s (with m/s "B.P.O (NGF)" & AMF censor No. 2748 h/s (both in violet). This cds used at 4 Mile Camp, Port Moresby, May 1942-Jan 1943. Part of flap missing otherwise fine. Proud states this period of use "not seen". Very scarce item.

Boxed h/s "Department of the Army/Concession Postal Rate", AMF censor No. 843 h/s (both in violet) & censor's signature. Early OAS cover, before issue of FPO cds cancels. Edge creases, but good cond overall.

Also on front: boxed unit regn h/s ("FPO 0139" in m/s) & AIF censor No. 91(?) h/s (both in violet). Further fine strike on back, with also fine "ARMY P.O. 0111" cds same day. Both used at Port Moresby (FPO 0139 at 17 Mile Camp, May 1942-Oct 1943). Very good cond.

Further fine strike on back, with good "ARMY P.O. 0111" same day. Both used at Port Moresby. The date here is 4 days later than recorded by Proud. Fine cond.

ARMY P.O. 217" cds same day (used at Regn Section, APO, Port Moresby, April 1944-Jan 1945). The FPO 0141 cds was used at HQ, A.N.G.A.U., Port Moresby, Sept 1942-Sept 1944. Good cond.
