Panama, 1901, Registration, 10c brown red, blue "158" handstamp, used with Panama A.R. 1901, 5c blue and 1892-96 5c blue, 20c violet pair and 1p lake, tied by purple "Panama, 16 Dic 1901" duplexes on course linen package front to New York City, sender's "#2" notation indicating second mailing, red crayon "2" marking and partial purple "Due Cents" handstamp with blue crayon "15" cent due rating; 1p with nat. s.e. at bottom, Very Fine. Scott No. Panama F4 + H4, 17, 19 (2), 21  Estimate $1,000 - 1,500. ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED ON COVER USAGES OF PANAMA H4, AND ONE OF THE FEW RECORDED COMMERCIAL USAGES OF PANAMA 1896 1P LAKE. Late in 1901, the supply of Colombian A.R. stamps was exhausted. The 5c postage stamps were overprinted with magenta "A.R." oval handstamps and used as A.R. stamps. This stamp is listed as Scott H4. This is one of two similar examples mailed on the same day to this addressee. It was apparently found to be overweight in New York and marked 15¢ postage due from the addressee. $0 (Image)

Scott No. Panama F4 + 17 (2), 18  Estimate $750 - 1,000. THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THIS FRANKING WITH TWO PANAMA F4 10C PROVISIONALS PREPAYING THE 20C REGISTRY FEE. At the time of the 1902 postal rate increase, Bocas del Toro apparently had a supply of the Panama 10c F4 provisional on hand.
