From Steamer Planter. Sharp strike of large circular handstamp on 3¢ red (U10) buff Nesbitt entire from the Carroll Hoy correspondence to New Orleans La., endorsed "Morning Light" at top and crossed out, Very Fine and choice strike.

The "Planter" of 343 tons was built in 1860 of 343 tons and was owned in part by Captain Clarkes V. Wells, who was from Sistersville, Virginia and took his boat south when the Civil War broke out. It was captured by U.S. troops on June 15, 1863, but after the war operated on the Alabama River.
