CAPE OF GOOD HOPE: Carton with an extensive accumulation of Seated Hope & KEVII issues with hundreds of Surcharges, some mint including large blocks/panes of low values, 1884-90 Anchor Wmk 1/- SG 53a block of 12 (light bend across middle row; Cat £2000++), KEVII to 5/- x10 (Cat £1600), etc, many used multiples including 1d block of 42 with Plate Number '6' (largest recorded used multiple?), 5/- block of 6 & some other very attractive blocks, a page of forgeries including Mafeking 1d, some postmark interest. At least one winter's fun. Weighs 9kg.

CAPE OF GOOD HOPE: c.1877 hand-painted cover of a happy sailor on a barrel waving two pendants into one of which a Seated Hope 2½d has been incorporated, BN '4' cancel & 'KING WILLIAMS TOWN' cds, 'CAPE TOWN' transit on the face & 'SIMONS TOWN' arrival b/s, minor blemishes. [The addressee was Francis William Sullivan who joined the Royal Navy in 1848 as a cadet, & rose to the top of the tree, being knighted & on 5.8.1900 appointed Admiral of the Fleet. On 16.10.1876, Sullivan was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the CofGH & West Africa Station. See also Lot 1059]

CAPE OF GOOD HOPE: Extensive collection of postmarks mostly part- to large-part strikes on single Seated Hopes to KEVII stamps plus some multiples, noted numerous very fine to superb strikes, pages of Barred Numerals & an array of 'cork' cancels, Inter-Provincial usages with values to £1, etc, lots of duplication but great value at about 25c per item.
