1862 Civil War letter on illustrated paper headed 'I am for the Union' and handwritten Camp Wood Munfordville Jan 20 1862 by a Union soldier describing his Christmas Lunch and his picket watch when 15 Confederate troops approached under a flag of truce and stayed until an answer from General Buell was received (Munfordville fell to the Confederates on Sept 16th 1862 following a two day siege). 1863 Civil War letter headed Vicksburg August 14th 1863 from a Union soldier following the defeat of the Confederate army at the siege of Vicksburg describing the poor conditions in the town and the disillusionment of residents with the additional suffering caused by Confederate Commander Colonel Pemberton refusing to surrender earlier in the siege, also commenting of the illness of many of his Regiment and his attitude towards the Negro population. 1880 Copy Of 1860 28 page letter from Jennie Dunbar to her father dealing with her travelling to Virginia to speak on behalf of Aaron D Stevens, one of the men involved in the raid at Harpers Ferry with John Brown. It was thought that if someone who really cared for Stevens came forward and spoke on his behalf at his trial his life may be spared, obviously it was not. This copy done in 1880 by Edith Brown, the granddaughter of John Brown. An amazing account of this moment in history. Comes with a transcript of the letter. (Image1)
