1854 1d Red-brown First official perforated issue, Die I, Alphabet II, Blued paper, Wmk Small Crown, Perf 16. A fine group of six included an unused o.g. example (FA) and five used examples on very blued paper, worn plate, double perforations variety (AA) and a misperf variety resulting in an additional set of horizontal horizontal perfs running across the adhesive (AD). 1855 1d Red-brown. A wonderful group of twelve perforated 1d ‘stars’ (SG21-29, Spec. C3-C8) cancelled by coloured cancellations including a blue Irish numeral, blue green numerals, a blue datestamp and a lovely bright green Irish spoon on cover. Attractive lot. (12). (Image)

1857-58 Railway mailing. Fine pair of covers, the first a morning envelope sent from London to Elgin bearing two 1d Deep rose-red (SG 40's) tied by London numerals with a Caledonian Railway “CR” handstamp below. The second a pre-printed Midland Railway envelope for the “Secretary's Office Derby” sent from Derby to Coventry bearing a 2d Blue (SG 34) tied by a Derby duplex. 1855 2d Blue Pl.4. (Die I, Alphabet I, Wmk Small Crown, Perf 14). Unused small part o.g. horizontal pair showing part sheet inscription at top due to being severely off centre. Major plate wear to the top right hand corner stars. Some light toning, thin around the nose and mouth of the right hand stamp and some light creasing. Still an exceptional multiple of this rare issue. Spec. F2. Cat £26,000.  (Image)
