1930 Sturt Exploration Centenary 1½d red endorsed "2d/Paid/PM/LHI" in pen Lord Howe Island Provisional ACSC 139c tied to local philatelic cover by 'LORD HOWE ISLAND/SP4/1930/NSW' cds, very fine, Cat $2000. Tillie Mitchell's cover of the same date - minor blemish - sold at our auction of 29.8.2022 for $944.

1931 Air Mail 6d perforated progressive proof in greenish brown on gummed unwatermarked paper, indistinct lettering on the plane's fuselage. Not listed in the ACSC, this is a previously unknown item and the only surviving proof for this issue. RPSofV Certificate (2024).  With a soon to be published article by Dr Geoff Kellow (editor of the ACSC) who states "It is printed on thin gummed paper...unlike the thicker softer paper used for...commemoratives from 1927 to 1932". He refers to an official letter requesting proofs to be provided "in various colours". John Ash submitted a final proof "in the colour selected by you from the seven proofs on one mount..." The PMG's Department advised Ash "...the lettering under the wing...is not as distinct as on the original [6d violet] stamp. This of course will be rectified". Dr Kellow also suggests that this proof, of which there are no examples in the Australia Post Collection, was taken directly from the die, and perforated by hand.
