Ex Dr Don Pearce. For each, only one sheet of 60 was issued. The very fine 'Besancon' (I) 5/- & 'Besancon' (III) 2/6d CTO singles sold for a combined SFr11,855.  On the small stamps, the space between 'O' & 'S' is 17mm. On the 2/6d and 5/- the space is 21mm. These famous pairs are the only recorded multiples and, because only one sheet of each was printed,  the only possible Value/Sheet Number examples. Ric Slade-Slade had pairs of both denominations. They passed into the 'Holding' collection but are believed to have later been split into singles. These pairs are among the most important of all De La Rue Keyplate issues.
