THICK 'O.S.' OVERPRINT: 1874-76 Perf 11½-12½x10 1d deep green as SG O2 from the left of the sheet Imperforate at Left, minor separation fault at upper-left, 'GPO ADELAIDE/FE13/74/S-A' cds, Cat £475+. A rare error. Ex Dr Don Pearce.
THICK 'O.S.' OVERPRINT: 1876-85 Broad Star Perf 11½-12½ 6d bright blue SG O18 lower-left corner block of 36 (6x6) comprising the last row of the overprinting forme plus the complete overprinting forme of 30 (6x5), several different Damaged 'O's, '6d.' printed in the margin at the lower-left corner, horizontal crease across the second row, iron-spots affecting four units (and evident from the face) & light gum blemishes, some minor perf separation/reinforcing, large-part original gum with many units being unmounted, Cat £5760+, for mounted singles. THICK 'O.S.' OVERPRINT: 1876-85 Broad Star Perf 11½-12½ 1/- red-brown with 'O.S.' Inverted SG O27a, GPO duplex, Cat £500. Gary Diffen recorded 10 used examples: his stamp sold for £288. Ex Dr Don Pearce.
THIN 'O.S.' NARROW SPACING OVERPRINT: 1891-1902 Crown/SA Perf 11½-12½ 1/- red-brown from the worn plate with Double 'O.S.' SG O33a, lightly cancelled, Cat £1200. There are actually portions of three overprints. Ex Dr Don Pearce. Gary Diffen recorded only four examples: his stamp was sold for £240.
THIN 'O.S.' NARROW SPACING OVERPRINT: 1891 De La Rue Perf 10 1d dull blue-green SG O54 block of 25, well centred, endorsed in indelible pencil on the reverse of three stamps "Recd/Sept 14/93", some minor perf separation/reinforcing but most units are unmounted, Cat £1875+, for mounted singles. Ex Dr Don Pearce.
THIN 'O.S.' NARROW SPACING OVERPRINT: 1894 De La Rue Perf 15 1d dull blue-green with the Overprint Double SG O56a with the two impressions almost coincident, light duplex cancel. Listed by Gibbons but unpriced mint or used. Ex Dr Don Pearce. Absent from Gary Diffen's collection, and believed to be the only recorded example.
THIN 'O.S.' WIDE SPACING OVERPRINT: 1899-1901 1d rosine with Misplaced Double Overprint SG O81b partial reconstruction of 19 singles from a 'block' of 36, various squared-circle cancels including 'BLINMAN', 'MILANG', 'CHANDADA', 'YARDEA', 'MENINGIE' and 'THURINGA' all of March or April 1900, Cat £10,450 (£550 each). Ex Dr Don Pearce. Gary Diffen's single sold for £168.
THIN 'O.S.' WIDE SPACING OVERPRINT: 1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' 2/6d pale violet and 5/- pale rose-pink SG O86-87 lower-right corner pairs each with Plate Number '1' and Value/Sheet Numbers '2/6 000055' in Green or '5/- 000050' in Violet, light horizontal bends, CTO with 'GPO ADELAIDE/ T4 / SE15/02/S.A' cds, Cat £28,000+, for normal singles. Ex Dr Don Pearce. For each, only one sheet of 60 was issued. The very fine 'Besancon' (I) 5/- & 'Besancon' (III) 2/6d CTO singles sold for a combined SFr11,855.
On the small stamps, the space between 'O' & 'S' is 17mm. On the 2/6d and 5/- the space is 21mm.
These famous pairs are the only recorded multiples and, because only one sheet of each was printed, the only possible Value/Sheet Number examples. Ric Slade-Slade had pairs of both denominations. They passed into the 'Holding' collection but are believed to have later been split into singles. These pairs are among the most important of all De La Rue Keyplate issues.
THIN 'O.S.' WIDE SPACING OVERPRINT: 5/- pale rose-pink SG O87, unusually well centred, characteristic light horizontal bend & light diagonal crease at lower-left, very fresh with large-part original gum, Cat £9500. Only one sheet of 60 was issued. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2008). The very fine 'Besancon' (I) example sold for SFr8470. Dr Don Pearce's example with minor bends sold at our auction of 9.11.2022 for $6350.
PUNCTURED 'SA': 1902-04 Thin 'POSTAGE' 1/- brown marginal vertical strip from the upper-right corner of the sheet with complete Error of Watermark 'SUOTH' ACSC S30a, Plate Number '1' and Value/Sheet Number '1d 689887' in Vermilion, mounted in the margins but the stamps are unmounted, Cat $1500 for the watermark error plus a premium for the sheet number. Ex Dr Don Pearce. The ACSC states that only two examples of the 'SUOTH' error have been recorded on the 1/-. [Most examples of the 'SUOTH' errors are missing the 'H' because they are corner pairs or blocks of 4 only]
PUNCTURED 'SA': Error of Watermark 'AUSTRLAIA' from the lower-right of the sheet 1) in full on 1d vertical strip of 4 (very scarce thus) ACSC S6a; and 2) large-part '[AU]STRLAIA' on 2d vertical strip of 3 S9a; Cat $400 but much scarcer than the similar but better-known 'SUOTH' errors.
