1850-51 Sydney Views 1d dull carmine Plate II (Clouds) on Hard Greyish Paper SG 11, margins close to large, exceptional early impression and strong colour, unused, Cat £14,000. Superb. Ex Baron de Ferrary, Robert Odenweller & 'Manwood' (Dale Forster). Sold at our auction of 8.11.2013 for $26,795. RPSofL Certificate (2013). This is one of the finest unused Penny Sydney Views in private hands, and it was Dale Forster's favourite stamp in his collection. It is superior in quality & appearance to the unused SG 5 & SG 8 from 'Besancon' (II) that sold for SFr13,915 & SFr15,730 respectively.

1850-51 Sydney Views 2d lilac-blue Plate II (Horizontal-Lined Background, Dated Bale & Dots in Corner Stars) SG 22, margins close to large with complete outer frameline at base, very fine BN '3' of Windsor, shallow thinning at the top doesn't detract from the exceptional facial appearance, Cat £1300. The shade is more accurately termed "dirty ultramarine", or "stone".

1850-51 Sydney Views 2d Prussian blue Plate II (Horizontal Lined Background, Dated Bale & Dots in the Corner Stars) as SG 21-24 group but a slightly less well-defined Intermediate Impression, a huge corner example from the upper-right of the sheet with margins good to large and complete outer framelines at top & right, light BN '3' cancel of Windsor, Cat £200. A superb gem for the connoisseur. Gibbons list early, intermediate & later states for Plate I but only early & worn states for Plate II. We urge them to add Plate II Intermediate State, This stamp is clearly not a worn impression.

1851-55 Laureates 6d van Dyke brown on Medium White Wove Paper with 'WALLS' at Right SG 72a, margins just touching - at upper-left - to close, tiny fault at the lower-right corner, fine strike of the first-type BN '50' of Albury well clear of the variety, Cat £2750. 'Van Dyke brown' is a rather unhelpful descriptor for this 'black-brown' shade. This example is actually in a very rich shade: most stamps offered as 'van Dyke' are the more usual paler browns. [The illustration is above Lot 28]
