PIONEER MAIL: Wrapper 1 Mar. 1837 number 2 to William Stanley in Houndsditch, London with "PENZANCE SHIP LETTER" on the reverse and London "21 JY 1837" receiving cds. 1¼ oz ms mark and ms "5/4d" in red. (Image)

PIONEER MAIL: 1840 wrapper to Oxford Street, London. On the reverse is a fine crowned "KORORARIKA NEW ZEALAND 1840" with that year engraved as a fixture; the earliest recorded dated example is Apr. 1841. From other markings it is likely the wrapper was sent in or around Sep. 1842. On reverse is an octagonal "NO 12 42 LIVERPOOL SHIP" and a double-ringed London 13 No 1842 in red. M/s 6[d] in red paid by the sender and 8[d] in black to be paid by recipient. (Image)

MISSIONARY MAIL: 10 Jul. 1843 wrapper from George Augustus Selwyn, Bishop of New Zealand to the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in London. Endorsed at top 'via Sydney. By Shamrock'. The wrapper bears a light 'PAID AT KORORARIKA' on the front with straight line 'SHIP LETTER' in black on the reverse and London 12 MR 1844 receiving cds. M/s "6" indicates sixpence paid for the Colonial Postage Rate of 6d for a half ounce letter and m/s "8" shows eight pence to be paid by the recipient (ex Ellott). (Image)

PIONEER MAIL: 23 February 1854 env. from the merchants Brown & Campbell in Auckland to James Coates, Clerk to the House of Representatives bearing a fine handstruck 2 on the front showing 2d local postage paid by the sender but no address, just the name. On the back is a black unframed "AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND/FE 23 1854" cds and the embossed merchant's name; details of both the firm and James Coates are included with this item. (Image)

1900 1d UNIVERSAL - SOFT PIRIE PAPER - PERF. 11 & 14 MIXED: 1d carmine perf. 14 x 11 reperforated 11. A very rare marginal block of four from the foot of the sheet with vertical patches. Fine SG 284 £1,600. [Ex Sir Gawaine Baillie]. Note:mixed perforations on sheets printed by the government printer 1st perforated 14 or 14 x 11 compound. These sheets were patched on the back with strips of gummed paper and re-perforated 11 on the defective original perforation. (Image)

DUNEDIN EXHIBITION: Small specialised lot with ½d pair on cover with DUNEDIN EXHIBITION 16 MR 26 cancels, pair on cover to 1934 with Health Camps slogan and single 1925 cover to Dunedin. 1D covers are represented by Exhibition covers in black and red-brown to Rangiora and Invercargill respectively, a Grand Hotel cover to Kaiapoi and a fine cover to Greymouth with full back of cover illustration of Exhibition. ½d values are represented by used block of four in Niue, closed office cancels, a copy cancelled FANNING ISLAND etc (11 stamps), the 1d has a matching block of four to the ½d, an Exhibition cancelled block of six, two top right corner blocks of four with and without Sheet No., plated singles 7 of which are mint.
