A RARE FRONT TO UMHALI: 5 Jan ???? from Durban to Umhlali bearing a good 1857-61 3d rose with blue c.d.s. of Durban cancellation. Rare. SG 4 £1,000 on cover and believed to be the only example to this destination. Ex Spink Nov. 2013. (Image)

RARE USE OF 3d EMBOSSED ISSUE: 7 July 1859 EL from Umhlanga to Queens County, Ireland bearing a good example of the 1857 3d rose embossed issue (SG 4) with a lightly struck black Durban cancellation. m/s "6" which does not appear to have been collected and "MONASTERVAN" c.d.s. The EL is soiled and in need of some restoration due to split folds. A rare item. Note - the "DURBAN" c.d.s. is usually struck in blue - the use of black ink is believed to be unique. (Image)
