Uniform 4d Post. 1839-40 Lettersheets (3) and a cover posted during the 4d Post period, lettersheets from Shaftesbury (part reverse missing, with boxed "MISSENT TO / SALISBURY"), Cheltenham or Taunton charged 4d, and a cover from Beaumaris sent locally in Anglesey charged 2d. (4).

1841 (Apr. 10) Mourning lettersheet written and posted from Hampton Court to Watford bearing 1d black, DB plate 5 state 2 with four large margins, tied by a black Maltese Cross, "T.P / Hampton Court" alongside. 1842 (Jan. 31) Mourning envelope from London to Dublin bearing 1d black DH plate 8, four margins, with a black Maltese Cross cancel, fine.

1841-53 Covers and lettersheets bearing imperf 1d reds, some pairs, also two lettersheet with a 2d blue, including Maltese Crosses, undated circles, straight line office handstamps, some with letters enclosed. (141).

1849-81 Covers including 1853 stampless cover with enclosed In Memorium card addressed to "Mr John Chambers, Kings Cross Post Office" with a fine "KINGS CROSS" undated circle on the front, presumably hand delivered; covers bearing 1d reds with "Missent to Rugby / and Newcastle R.W.P.O", circular framed "C&G / R.P.O" or "L&E / R.P.O", oval framed "B.B" (Blind Bag) and "NOT / FULLY ADDRESSED", cover with adhesive label "Search the scriptures", 1881 1d venetian red cover with "STOURBRIGDE / 750" error of spelling duplex, etc. (8).

1901 (June 5) Mourning cover to Dartmouth with QV 10d cancelled by Blandford double ring c.d.s, a Blandford single ring c.d.s and undated parcel handstamp alongside with violet boxed "½d POSTAGE DUE FOR RETURN TO SENDER", the reverse with a further 13 Blandford handstamps including 87 duplex and numeral obliterators, triangular "BIT", oval framed "R" and Registered datestamp and "More to Pay / above - oz / 87", vertical fold, very unusual. Postage Due Mail. 1840-1911 Covers and lettersheets posted unpaid and charged 2d (12), franked 1d but overweight and charged 2d (7), charged 1d for redirection (9), or disallowed at the ½d rate and charged 1d (2), virtually all with handstruck charge marks. (30).

Crimean War. 1854 Cover from London to "George Evans, Staff Asst. Surgeon, Constantinople" and redirected to Varna bearing 6d embossed (cut to shape), very unusual to Bulgaria. Also 1855 cover from Southampton to "Captain Bainbridge, 13th Regt Light Infantry, Crimea" bearing 1d red vertical strip of three. (2).

Boer War/WW1/WW2. 1889-1944 Covers including 1899-1901 official War Office or C. in C. envelopes signed or initialled by Wolseley (2) or Roberts, WW1 covers to or from soldiers (7) or P.O.Ws (2), cover returned by the censor, 1940 (June 25) cover with enclosed letter from G.B to France censored but apparently hand delivered, etc., (48). Also picture postcards of war memorials (74), Earl Haig or Buller's tomb, and In Memoriam postcards for Hector MacDonald or Captain Ball V.C. (126).

Ireland. 1844-1968 Covers and lettersheets from or to Ireland, mainly QV, including spoons, Straffan Station c.d.s and "415" obliterator, some post 1922, some with letters. (121).

Channel Islands. 1844-1971 Covers to or from the islands, mainly QV including 1844 cover from Guernsey franked 1d with "SHIP LETTER" backstamp, 1864 cover to Alderney with arrival backstamp, WW2, St. Saviours rubbers (3), etc. (79). Also printed Guernsey In Memoriam cards (40), all fine. (127).

Guernsey/India. 1882-84 Covers from Guernsey to Shillong, Assam, bearing 5d indigo (2) or 5d green (3, one with two stamps), minor edge faults. (5).

Official Mail. 1892-1965 Covers and lettersheets, mainly stampless with official cachets including "TOWER OF / LONDON", some stamped including I.R. Official stamps, 1911 cover franked 1d with House of Commons duplex, etc., some with letters, also unused stationery. (91+).

Royalty. 1815-41 Letters, etc., comprising 1815 letter written and signed by Ernest, Duke of Cumberland and King of Hanover, and 1834 letter from the Duchess of Kent (mother of Queen Victoria) to her cousin (neither postally used); 1841 cover from Queen Adelaide posted within London; also two 1817 mourning cards for Princess Charlotte. Royalty. c.1840-1939 Covers, letters and ephemera including covers signed by Duke of Cambridge (3, one bearing a 1d black which does not belong), letters from Princesses Helena, Victoria, Beatrice, Alice of Athlone, Margaret of Connaught, covers initialled by the Duke of Connaught or Albert, Prince of Wales, 1862 cover from Princess Helena posted to Germany, also In Memoriam cards for Princess Alice (3) and Prince Leopold (2), and unused invitation cards to the funerals of Duke of Cambridge or Princess Louise. Royalty - Queen Victoria. Undated mourning covers addressed in Queen Victoria's handwriting with her crest on the flap, to The Lord Bishop of Rochester or The Duchess of Edinburgh, Grand Duchess of Russia both signed "The Queen", or to The Lady Southampton or Viscount Bridport both signed "The Q", all hand delivered, the first with R.P.S Certificate (2013). Royalty - Queen Victoria. 1880 Mourning cover with VRI crest on the flap and royal seal, addressed in Queen Victoria's handwriting to Prince Christian Victor of Schleswig Holstein at Cumberland Lodge, Windsor, registered from Baden bearing 10pf pair on the front and another 10pf pair on the reverse.
