1859 (Oct.): 20 c. 'ardesia violaceo' and 20 c. 'nero violaceo', two fine single examples with fresh colours and overall good to large margins, the left example shaved at lower left, tied by light "POSTA LETTERE REGGIO" 'stemma sabaudo' handstamp in blue, "REGGIO 12 DIC 59" despatch cds in the same shade alongside, on entire letter directed to Ancona, reverse with PERUGIA transit cds (Dec 15). A most attractive cover with a pristine handwriting and the two-shade 'gemelli' Governo Provvisorio franking of same denomination, correctly paying the 40 centesimi rate to the Papal States. Signed Raffaele Diena & Jamet; certs. Gazzi (1973), Sorani (1989), E. Diena (1993) Sassone = € 9'450.rnProvenance: STOCKHOLMIA rarity sale, Köhler 369 (June 2019), lot 58. Modena: 1852: 5 c. green, generously margined example, tied to 1857 entire from Sasuolo to Miranduola by two strikes of a double framed blue PD, a SASUOLO ornamental mark in blue ink balances the fine appearance of the cover. Modena transit (Oct 28) also struck on obverse. A most appealing single franking of this stamp, beautifully contrasting with the envelope and cancellation. A filing crease is well clear of the franking. Signed Giulio Bolaffi (1961). (Image 1)(Image 2)(Image)
