RCMP & RNWMP COLLECTION 1873-1904, a mtd collection by retired RCMP Superintendent Cecil C. Coutts, it starts with a copy of the Sir John A. MacDonald's AUG30,1873 Order-in-Council to create the police force, then an 1873 RNWMP recruitment poster from Commissioner Lt-Col French indicating salary rates and a grant of 160 acres of land after 3 years service, the collection includes drawings, documents, photos, and maps of the famous 1874 March West along with drawings by Gazette reporter, Henri Julien who accompanied the march, also note 6 covers + 10 postcards + 54 stamps with cancels from the various RNWMP Forts established enroute and main Hudson's Bay posts, includes a scarce AUG2,1883 postal card from REGINA-NWT in the year the Police Training Center was opened, the collection describes the events and treaties negotiated with the Blackfoot, Blood, Peigan, Sarcee, and Stoney tribes, there is an extensive history of the key personalities along with history of the settlements along the patrol routes, this well researched collection was on display at Fort Calgary in 2017-2018 as a popular historical tourist guide to the city, retails at least $600, VF est ($100+ US) (Image)
