1915 Gallipoli picture postcard (view 'RMS Moldavia in Stormy Weather'), headed on reverse "The Boys of 11th Rein (Reinforcements) 1st Field Amb AMC" and signed below by all 12 members that embarked on the Moldavia when it departed Sydney on 2nd Oct 1915 bound for Suez arriving 3rd Nov 1915 (source: Troopship Records, Australian War Memorial), the signatures incl those of Military Medal recipients 6114 Joseph Bernard Murphy & 6117 James Joseph O'Toole, and also that of John Owen Maddox whose diary (held in Mitchell Library) confirms that the 11th Reinforcements landed at Anzac Cove (7th Dec,1915), shortly after the evacuation from Gallipoli had commenced, then in March 1916, were among the first Australian troops to serve on the Western Front. The diary also confirms the Oct 2nd 1915 Sydney departure date, "with eleven others under Major Reid"; very good condition. (Image1)
