1850: Carta a mano 5 c. yellow-orange (shaved at base) in mixed franking with 1855 Carta a macchina 45 c. bright blue in type II, three fine and fresh examples with good to large margins, tied by "MILANO 15 / 2" (1858) cds with "P.D" handstamp and French "AUTRICHE 18 FEVR. 68" entry cds, both in red alongside on entire letter to Lyon, reverse with LYON arrival (Feb 18, 1858) cds. Filing folds, also one below the 5 c. stamp, nevertheless a correctly paid double rate cover with twice 7 kreuzer for Austria and twice 7 kreuzer for France, the rate being in force from January 1858, in addition a rare late use of the Carta a mano adhesive. 1852 (Aug 20): Entire letter from Rovigo to Forli in the Papal States, bearing Carta a mano 15 c. rose type II, a fine and fresh example with even large margins, tied by ROVIGO two-line datestamp, FRANCA and "REGNO LOMBARDO-VENETO" handstamps. Struck on obverse also by FRONTIERE and "Regno L°V°" handstamps, all in black. The last handstamp was added at the border to the Papal States in S. M. Maddalena. Reverse with Ferrara transit (Aug 21) and Forli arrival (Aug 22) datestamps. Paid by the sender until the border, taxed upon arrival for the residual part of the journey. Front struck by two-line "VENEZIA 26 AGOo" despatch cds, another strike of the Raccomandata handstamp as well as Sardinian "A.2" postal treaty handstamp in red. Reverse with "GENOVA 29 AGO 50" arrival cds in red. Horizontal file fold, cover opened up for presentation purposes, nevertheless a rare usage with the postage unpaid and the registration paid, also a rare cancellation of the adhesive. Signed A.
