1942 "First Flight Liberia-U.S.": 1941 Airmail stamps 50c on 4c, 50c on 10c, the scarce 50c on 20c, 50c on 30c, 50c and $1 used on 1942 registered cover from Monrovia to New York prepared for the first official flight Liberia-U.S. but sent by surface mail due to wartime limitations, with large FF cachet, related datestamps, and returned to sender, with minor imperfections at top, two stamps uncancelled ($1 and 50c on 20c). 1941 Air 50c and 50c on 10c used on registered cover from Monrovia to Nashville Tenn., U.S.A., despatched in 1942 but delivered in 1946, both stamps tied "MONROVIA/30 VI 42", cover "HELD BY BRITISH CENSOR...JAN.1946" (h/s and label), sent to Nashville via New York and returned to Monrovia (29.IV.46 arrival dater) at least. A scarce stamp on a scarce and unusual cover. (Ex W. Schneider coll.)
