Liberia, Monrovia Aug 13th 1842. Dateline on folded letter to the mission rooms in New York City, entered the mails with blue "Philadelphia, Pa., Oct 10" cds, matching straight line "Ship" handstamp and "14Ā½" due rate, endorsed "Per Brig Grecian (Capt.) Laulin" at bottom, letter from Dr. James Lawrence Day regarding request to guide missionaries to Croo but cannot due to a large immigration that will need his attention, advises if they cannot get another physician to Croo that missionaries should come to Monrovia, mentions Dr. Gile is in America and Dr Johnson in Bassa, Very Fine. EstimateĀ  $300 - 400. Dr. James Lawrence Day from Morristown, New Jersey became physician for the American Colonization Society to Liberia in 1840. Dr. Day spent three years in Liberia, 1840-1843, aiding in the welfare and success of the colony. In 1843 he served as the United States Agent to the West Coast of Africa. $0 (Image)
