Liberia, 1852 Rev. James Mitchell Letter, Lincoln's Commissioner of Emigration, 2 pages folded letter datelined "Jeffersonville 4/29/52" to Boston, Mass., franked with U.S. 1851, 3¢ dull red (11A) tied by partial "Louisville & Cincinatti Mail Line 4/30" balloon cds, the Reverend was at the time of this letter, the Secretary of the American Colonization Society of Indiana, he was an advocate of abolition and colonization, and in Lincoln's administration was responsible for the establishment of colonies abroad for freed slaves, he organized Lincoln's infamous 1862 address to the "Deputation of Negroes" at the White House, historically significant letter…Our colonization has passed the General Assembly…some may blame me for this policy but I require no sacrifice of the colored man I would not make myself.
