Cat No:1793 Chain

1793 Flowing Hair Chain Cent Fr-2. Unusual to see another chain cent similar to Lot 3 of the previous auction but the estate of origin actually had two of them! Once again extensive wear prohibits determining the exact Sheldon variety (Chain Cents can be S1, S2, S3 or S4), but the chain is clearly visible and, amazingly, the coin has very little corrosion. Rare by any standard, Bowers estimates that only 800 to 1,100 Chain Cents survive in ALL grades. (Image)

Cat No:1804 S-266c

1804 Draped Bust S-266c F Details Net G. Perhaps F+ details but pitted from corrosion. The obv cud above RTY of LIBERTY and the rev cud above AMERICA are plainly visible. (These are diagnostic for die state C.) Most of the reported mintage for 1804 was comprised of earlier dates. Bowers estimates that actual number of coins struck with the 1804 date to be about 60,000 of which only 750 to 1,000 remain today in all grades. This renders the 1804 the rarest cent of the 19th century. (Image)
